Our future: Preparing a Master Plan

A new plan for Melbourne Showgrounds will ensure the much-loved precinct can best serve the needs of Victorians now and for generations to come

It is time to create a new plan for its future, building on its legacy of creating enjoyable experiences and memories.

Our Showgrounds, Our Future is being delivered by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria and with funding assistance from the Andrews Labor Government and the advice of leading and highly experienced consultancies including PwC, NH Architecture and Capire Consulting Group.

Why does Melbourne Showgrounds need a master plan?

The Our Showgrounds, Our Future master plan and business case will identify how the site can be improved to maximise its potential as a centre for agriculture, events, exhibitions, and wider community use.

It will look at options to upgrade or replace ageing infrastructure and how to best integrate transport, exhibition, and accommodation facilities into the precinct

What is the business case?

Our Showgrounds, Our Future, will include a business case that sets out the rationale and economic and policy merits of the project. The business case will demonstrate how project recommendations can be successfully delivered.

What is being proposed?

Over the coming months specialist design, technical, and business advisory teams will work with Royal Melbourne Show visitors and participants, residents and the wider community to understand what is much loved with the current site, what could be improved and what the future could look like.

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is committed to develop a new plan to ensure the much-loved precinct can best serve the needs of Victorians now and for generations to come.

At the release of the draft Our Showgrounds, Our Future plan, scheduled for later in 2020, we will present options on what the future Melbourne Showgrounds could look like and we will invite your feedback.
